Lost in Singapore
As the sun set over Singapore’s gleaming skyscrapers, my legs wandered the vibrant streets of Orchard Road. Just hours earlier, I had arrived in this bustling city, brimming with cultures, eager to explore its famous attractions. However, in my search for the elusive street food markets, I had inadvertently strayed from my planned route.
Without the GPS on my phone, which I had forgotten to charge in my excitement, I had to rely on my instincts and the occasional pedestrian who dared to ask in my broken English, begging for directions. Every corner was a feast for the senses: the aroma of satay sizzling on skewers, the vibrant colours of traditional Peranakan tiles and the melodic sounds of street musicians blended into a symphony that both soothed and captivated me.
As I delved deeper into the maze of HDB flats, my initial anxiety turned to euphoria. I stumbled upon a hidden hawker market where locals gathered around tables, enjoying dishes like Hainanese chicken rice and laksa. The friendly chatter and laughter welcomed me, and I soon shared a table with a jovial elderly couple who graciously regaled me with stories of Singapore’s transformation over the decades.
After a delicious meal and so much information, I plucked up the courage and decided it was time to pluck up the courage to meet Zhang Li, my betrothed from the East. The warm evening air was scented with spices and sweet desserts. I realized then that getting lost wasn't a tragedy after all; it was the time I needed to fill my chest with desire and finally find love. Find the woman who made me fly halfway around the world in search of happiness. You!
